I hardly see how posting a meme that was already posted there is making Lemmy a copy of Reddit. Do you think that most memes you see here are OC?
Edit: on further thought, even if communities end up with a lot of “copied” posts, why would that be bad? I don’t want to go on Reddit to comment on it. I am not even aware it was posted on reddit because I have not opened that domain in years if not by web search. Users are what make communities more than the posts themselves, so if someone wants to share something for any reason, I don’t care if it came from reddit. I don’t care if it came from 4chan. I am here to engage with the contents of the post, its poster, and the rest of this community. This kind of meta-discussion about what other servers this collection of bytes has been on previously is pointless at best, and empty virtue signaling at worst.
I swear, there are a couple weirdos on lemmy that think content must be original. Either that or it’s reddit operation to harass posters and reduce lemmy userbase
If they mostly use their account to repost things from other platforms if they were not previously posted in the community, I’m OK with that, as long as there is a “quality” filter, especially if it is subjective. Then we can vote on it as we do for any other and if it was a shit post it will be buried.
You may spend enough time on Reddit to instantly spot reposts and be annoyed by it, but I don’t. How do you see limiting the amount of potential entertainment and discussion that I can get on Lemmy a positive for it? Is your position that if something is already posted on Reddit, I should go there to interact with it?
Nothing I have said is to the contrary of anything. And if you cannot understand that people are here because they did not like Reddit then you are part of the problem.
That’s… yeah, exactly, that’s what you’re doing, thus making this platform feel more like Reddit. While me and the other commenters don’t care for that shit. Can you see how you seem to be against your point?
You seem really intentioned on antagonising me for being someone that is not being contrarian. What is your last sentence even supposed to mean? “Cannot understand that people are here because they did not like Reddit”, really?
You are having a redditor moment by falling into shallow campism and name-calling instead of discussing a point critically.
It was in response to being called intentionally obtuse and “part of the problem” after pointing out that you were attacking me without making logical sense. Contrarian was a poor choice of words I admit, maybe hostile would’ve been more appropriate.
What’s your objection specifically? As long as it’s not hosted on i.redd.it why would it be a problem?
Because Lemmy doesn’t need to be a copy of Reddit.

You are being intentionally contrarian.
I’m listening if you can explain how this specific meme is bringing about enshittification to Lemmy.

Do you think that accounts that solely exist to repost new memes verbatim to lemmy help with the health of it?
Yes.
If it is a person that saw it, chuckled, and decided to share it, yes. If it is a bot automatically reposting every post, no.

A lot of people are here because they like the experience of reddit but not the company running it.
People on Reddit complained all the time about it being screenshot of other social media.

I didn’t even reply to you, you replied to me… You are literally the antagonist here.

So create original content. Instead reddit agents are just stirring fake outrage
You mean like you?
