yeah, a long history of public shitting at strenuous events, particularly women. Her issues was it’s all over the indoor events track and equipment,

    https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2026/sep/18/hyrox-joanna-wietrzyk-history-of-athletes-pooing-mid-race-why-and-how

Wietrzyk isn’t alone: other public mishaps published over the past three decades include the 1998 London Marathon winner, Catherina McKeirnan, who dodged cameras along the way while suffering several bouts of diarrhoea. Paula Radcliffe, the winner of the 2005 London Marathon, wasn’t so lucky; she was publicly caught relieving herself of debilitating stomach pains by the road near the finish line, blaming it on too much gluten-free pasta and grilled salmon the night before. In 2024 the US athlete Taylor Knibb won the Dubai T100 despite having to relieve herself during the race, uttering the immortal line to a camera operator: “I just shit myself … so can you not get my ass? Thank you.”

I understand this to an extent, but not the post competition behavior.

I was a runner in secondary school. You’re taught to push through pain and discomfort to reach the finish. If 24 year old me shat myself whilst participating in the Olympics, I can imagine possibly panicking and deciding to continue. You have to make instantaneous decisions with unwavering followthrough whilst competing as second guessing can make the difference between ranking first or third. You don’t overthink, just decide, execute, and move forward.

I cannot imagine bragging about it later on social media. I’d be mortified. Hell, I AM mortified for her.

Well, it wasn’t so much the shitting. She could have handled it right then and nobody would have heard about it

It was the smearing shit across the entire venue, other athletes, and all the equipment, to the point where they had to do an overnight emergency carpet replacement. Then going home and bragging about it in a now deleted post, humiliating both Hyrox and her (now former) sponsor Puma as the internet was flooded with thousands of shocking pictures and videos

In a statement, HYROX China said the area was decontaminated after the race had finished.

“After the incident, the organising committee immediately closed off and isolated the affected area and track, and completed comprehensive disinfection,” organisers said.

“Relevant equipment was removed from the venue, and waste was disposed of in accordance with municipal waste-management standards.”

The organisers also said they would replace flooring at the venue to protect future athlete health.

She shit herself, got shit on her hands and legs, and continued to use the shared equipment. It was bad enough the competition organizers are replacing the flooring. That’s pretty much what the other person said.

you make it sound like she running around intentionally finger painting it smearing it on people and things

She chose to get her shit everywhere instead of taking care of her mess. If that’s not intentionally smearing shit on things, I don’t know what would be.

If you have paint on your hands and you choose to use somebody’s thing without cleaning your hands, you chose to get paint on it. She chose to get her shit on everything, so she gets blamed for the thing she did.

Well, she got it all over her arms and hands then actively smeared it into equipment other people had to use. This went on for like 40 minutes. Then she publicly bragged about doing so.

Your interpretation of the story is that she was unaware this was happening?

A Hyrox athlete (this incident making rounds on the internet is how I first heard of the sport) shat herself during a competition but kept going and won, using shared equipment with feces streaming down her legs. She proclaimed “a win is a win” and only apologized after backlash online and losing her sponsorship from Puma.

        A Hyrox athlete

        A hyro-rah-what now?

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyrox

Hyrox (stylized as HYROX) is an indoor fitness competition that combines 8 km of running and 8 functional workout stations. Contestants alternate between running and functional exercises.

Wow, it’s the 29th anniversary today. What a coincidence.

So, I realise being in a gym makes this far worse than, say, an endurance athlete, but do you think part of the reason she was given so much shit (lol) is because nobody takes Hyrox seriously?

I’d imagine an athlete doing this sort of thing in a more popular sport would face more criticism and ridicule. If anything, Hyrox being niche is probably saving her from a lot of attention and outrage.

Trump doesn’t apologize. He mumbles through some bluster that sounds like an apology. He’s a narcissist, why would he?
