President Donald Trump on Monday called on New Mexico to change its name to “New America” — the latest example of him seeking geographical name changes that fit his political agenda.
No that’s still something you come across, not as often as it used to be. 10-15 years ago I had someone ask if they needed their passport to visit NM, which was funny because they were dead serious. I think since Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul got as popular as it did people figured out NM was a state but I cannot confirm this, it’s just my head canon.
As a born and raised New Mexican, who now unfortunately lives in the Midwest. Nah, still happening. Got a roomful within the past two months. I blame Missouri public education.

It’s such a stupid idea because even people who voted for him have New Mexican pride and wouldn’t agree with this change, it’s simply stupid
