Thank you for the giggle, lol. I’m actually not sure, but there was a lady who became convinced doctors were lying to her and I believe it took a couple of months before she died. So… a couple of months?
Well, neverminding the 12.2 mile distance, my only option besides a freeway would be a road that is four lane with no sidewalks (it’s technically suburban but for most of the way there’s only the occasional house or business, so I would be in the right lane all the way) with a speed limit of 45 and no street lights.
As a wheelchair user, I’d have to use a four-wheel device. I don’t know the range on those because I don’t own one.
The Amtrak ticket would only be $11, although I’d have to leave at 11:50pm the night before AND the bus doesn’t carry wheelchairs anyway. heh. Paratransit doesn’t run early enough, either.
Nor are they available to disabled people. But people like @Michal@programming.dev think they have the whole world figured out because they have the privilege to do so.
In some ways, it was worse - when I lived in the same city as the dialysis place, before I was driving again, I took paratransit. Although it’s a “shared ride” and sometimes I’d actually have a fellow passenger, most of the time it was just me in the van. heh.
(Although I know for a fact that during “rush hour” they would sometimes have entire groups going close enough to need a van)

It would be hilarious to try and take the bus to the Amtrak station in the city in which I live, go up one station to the city in which the dialysis center is located, take the bus to dialysis, have my dialysis, then go back. I’m not sure I could do that in a single day. Certainly not my chair time of 6:00am. But let’s see:
Well, alright. Actually, Amtrak ticket would be $11, which is not bad. And while the ride would be 4:21am-4:20am, I wouldn’t be able to get a bus until 6:00, getting to dialysis 25 minutes late.
The first obstacle is that I would have to leave my apartment for the Amtrak station at 11:30pm the previous day, as service doesn’t run in the middle of the night.
I drive to and from dialysis three times per week, and to the occasional medical appointment. Which of those exactly should I be skipping?

You could skip all of them if you take a bus /train/bike. This is of course if you have the option. I don’t know your situation.

E-Bike? E-Scooter? That’s easier than walking depending on how far away you park.

Not everywhere yet, but there are growing regulations and outright bans of e-bikes across US municipalities.
