There’s also the question of the ideology of the dominant class. People are led to believe that the current system is good, that if they work hard enough they will have their place in the Olympus where they will be allowed to shit on top of the poor people’s heads. But only if they work “hard enough”.

And most working people fall for that because this ideology also make them believe that it’s better to risk the chance of being better than anyone else and potentially live a life of endless toil than it is to have a life of plenty for everyone, without too much difference between one and the other. At least you’re gonna have some “meaning”.
