In Steam you can’t make an informed purchasing decision to only get a game if it doesn’t have DRM, because they don’t inform you of it upfront.

Further, steam-api is itself a light form of DRM, even if it can be mostly worked around by those with sufficient technical proeficiency by using something like the Goldberg Emulator.

Meanwhile in GOG no games have DRM and you can definitelly make an informed purchase decision that considers the presence or absence of DRM there.

Your argument would have weight if Steam gave you the choice of not buying games with DRM if you didn’t want to by informing you of which have it and which don’t, but that’s not at all the case - you buy the game and only after that do you discover if your brand new single player game phones home every time it starts and refuses to run if there’s no Internet connection.

This is just total crap. Every game on Steam tells you if it has a 3rd party launcher, anti-cheat and if it requires an internet connection. No other store discloses stuff so consistently and in such detail that I know of.

        That’s an outright lie.

For example, this has no “requires internet” disclosure and yet if you try and start it offline for the first time it won’t run and even after that if you have it offline for more than a week or so it stops working (I know because it happened to me on vacations).

Most games integrated with the Steam API require the game to be online and able to reach the Steam servers both for first start and at least once in a while, something that’s not disclosed in the Steam store page for those games.

Further, it doesn’t get more consistent as disclosures on DRM go than GOG’s “None of our games have DRM”, so your “no other store” is also a lie.

If you’re going to fanboy for Steam, at least stick to their true qualities and don’t make shit up.
