      The title of the original https://www.heise.de/news/Deutsche-Datenschuetzer-draengen-auf-endgueltiges-Aus-fuer-die-Chatkontrolle-11282922.html currently talks about “Datenschutzbehörden”, i.e. data protection authorities; but you can see in the URL that the article previously had a different title, which seems to be the one used for the translation to English, there’s apparently just no better way to directly translate “Datenschützer” to English. :/

      The term “privacy advocates” basically doesn’t exist in the German language; we use the term “Datenschützer” for those who engage in the fight for privacy and data protection. I actually believe that the term we use in German is better, since protection sounds much more serious and more worth discussing compared to “privacy.” The word data protection actually says that this is not just about having privacy, but about actual protection of so much more.

        What the hell is wrong with you? Germany is very data protection and privacy aware, we’ve got additional data protection regulations on top of those by the EU and are generally much better than e.g. the USA or Canada as far as I’m aware.
