It’d be pretty fucking funny if they were pretending to do some fancy image analysis with the theatrical graphics while in reality, just pulling GPS coordinates from the EXIF data.
Thanks Meta VR!
Forget about all of the privacy problems, there is no way this can ever be inaccurate! /s
Reason 3,256,247 of why I don’t have social media…
Well, Lemmy is also considered “social media”
It’s actually considered a Social News Aggregator.
Well, that’s not gonna stop them from busting into your place anyway because the AI randomly flagged your house based on someone else’s photo and presented it with 100% confidence
Or having the police bust down your door because you have no social media footprint.
Most of our friends are baffled by our complete lack of social media presence.
This one I’m less worried about. I work with a bunch of old timers who haven’t yet integreated email into their life. I used to poke fun at them but now I’m trying to be like them haha
Can they flag your house is there no picture of the inside? Unless someone falsely flags photos as being from your house
I remember a few years ago there was an initiative encouraging people to take pictures of their hotel rooms as they checked in (to get them in the fresh state) and provide them to a non-profit, with the idea that they could compare those images with photos of persons who were being trafficked and advertised on prostitution sites or in CSAM images to try to identify where the victims were or had been. It seemed like a noble idea but I never heard more about it. I guess this is one of those things where the theory sounds good, but in practice it’s ripe for abuse (as mentioned in this article, initially the tool was open to anyone and there were users on the company’s Discord trying to use it to stalk women).
The best part about this is when the previous tenants of your home go off and commit a crime and then you have a swat team break down your door, kill your dog, shoot your spouse, and beat you within an inch of your life before realizing you aren’t a 400 lb [invert your color] man from Upakiztan.
That ppl trust the powerful with information about them is insane to me and always has been.
[…] have bought access to Raven, which was previously called GeoSpy.
