A UC Berkeley researcher co-authored a study that raises profound questions about how we interact with artificial intelligence in education — and daily life.
I read a study that people used to focus on remembering information they learned, but given the opportunity (Internet, books) instead they focused on remembering the location of the information they learned so that they could access it later
The latter is a great approach for knowing where to find knowledge you don’t know. Like understanding how a library is organized makes finding something easier so if you haven’t previously learned about something you know where to find it. It is basically how research is done.
Knowing how to filter what is important and what isn’t is another skill that helps to apply that approach, and LLMs don’t provide anything that helps with that kind of filtering.
