first of all i wanna say i have already tried a linux box with plasma bigscreen and its unfortunately not my thing
SO something that’s easy to use (like an android box) and has support for youtube adblocking (and maybe even sponsorblock). I’m not looking to use a little keyboard controller to navigate a desktop ui, i would like to use a standard enough remote and navigate something that was made for a tv
i know this is like impossible and it doesn’t need to be crazy private, just something that doesn’t take all of my yummy data :)
thank guy
A PC
Walmart onn Android box for like $15 or $20 (or the 4k version which is around $50). Cheaper than a shield and it’s probably in stock at your local Walmart
Install Projectivy launcher for ad free home screen and SmartTube for ad block and sponsor block
Any android tv box with YouTube Revanced or smartTubeNext or any other listed on https://github.com/ajayyy/SponsorBlock/wiki/3rd-Party-Ports#android-tv
Nvidia shield with SmartTube and sponsorblock
Works great.
Any of the devices on the Slimbox website
I’m currently using a Tanix W2 running Slimbox with Projectivity Launcher and SmartTube.
I’m not sure how long I have that box, maybe about 5 or 6 months. But before that I had another with the same setup for a good few years and without any issues.
There are plenty of devices on that site that with (obviously) a Slimbox version for them, including Xiaomi Tv Stick and other Google TV devices.
I’m not sure how Slimbox manages the DRM (widevine) on those devices, but widevine doesn’t bother me as I don’t use any of the apps that require it.
Some Raspberry Pi 3B+ or newer running LibreElec or OSMC, both using Kodi. With a dedicated media center case, you can use a remote control or alternatively an Android smartphone with the Kore app. Sharing YouTube videos from the smartphone works as well if the Kodi-YouTube app is installed.
Depending on model, you can even install LineageOS on it to strip GMS from it : https://wiki.lineageos.org/gapps/
