See the good. Yes, the church has a past (and present) fraught with problems and unforgivable acts, but if you think one person, even its supreme leader, can stop it during their lifetime, you’re overly optimistic. Do you think replacing the president will fix the US? Do you think Japan is unlovable now because of what they did in the past?
Quelle surprise… It’s good business reinforcing the belief that he is, though. I recommend the book God’s Bankers by Gerald Posner. A lot of interesting insight into what works less as a religion and more as a nation state.
I want you to look at what instance I’m on, use your brain a little bit, and think about why a trans person might not be fawning over the head of the Catholic Church just for opposing AI.
Of course the catholic church is against A.I. it could very possibly become a powerful God that is visible and tangible to people, as opposed to one that is just said to exist, needs a system of believe to exist, and nothing can be directly attributed to. Any positive or negative act that is brought upon the world as a result of an A.I super being will be measurable, visible, and able to be witnessed by all those affected.
Sounds like a pretty big threat to the existence of all religions to me.
Not LLMs. I am talking about if all agents connect globally and all information can be accessed instantly at once. Listen to what the actual experts are saying, not what the corporations are saying.
In the 80s there were AI researchers who believed that once all of human knowledge was stored on a computer system, it would spontaneously become intelligent. This, of course, was magical thinking, and no such thing happened.
It still won’t happen.
Listen to what the actual experts are saying
I do, and the actual experts all understand that the current generation of machine learning models are optimization algorithms that have been refined to locate specific areas of large datasets based on input prompts. They’re fancy search query tools, nothing more. There’s no “intelligence” at work.
When you have a “conversation” with an LLM, and it gives you a seemingly-intelligent response, what you’re getting is a dump of some copied text that is related to the input you’ve been feeding the text entry field. The “intelligence” that you perceive in the response is actually that of the human who made the original writing that was scraped for training data.
Keep your credulity in check. The algorithm has no understanding of what it regurgitates, no comprehension of the information it handles. It does keyword association really really well, and it can sift through lots and lots of data impressively fast. It’s a great, big, environmentally destructive Chinese room.
I’m glad the pope is anti-AI and all, but it hardly makes up for everything else the church is responsible for, no?

He claims to be the literal voice of god but can’t change the church’s behavior? I guess that god isn’t so omnipotent after all…

He got the voice but not the balls.
People like you are so annoying, why can’t you just be happy about small wins?
I want you to look at what instance I’m on, use your brain a little bit, and think about why a trans person might not be fawning over the head of the Catholic Church just for opposing AI.
Because being a victim of bigotry and abuse sucks.

My brother in machine-Christ, you need to take a deep breath, go outside, and touch some grass.

What agents?

Jesus… Wow, what a shit take
Im not referring to LLMs numbnuts.
