Knock knock game - you have to stay in front of the door as long as possible.
Or
Ding dong ditch - you’re just a pest to the neighbourhood.
Also did anyone do the thing where you stand on each side of the road and pretend to tug of war an invisible rope to troll cars. That one made adults crash out hard.
Ding dong ditch
Ooh you touch my tralala
Oooh my ding ding dong!
I can feel the greasy sweat from just the memory of that music video…
Urgh same memories…
The only answer
Same energy
Nah ding dong ditch runs closer to generally benign naming convention common in the English speaking areas of North America where it could be something benign or it’s something mildly horrific like Willy Pete (White Phosphorus) or Bouncing Betty (A type of land mine).
Mh? Is knicky knocky nine doors malevolent? I thought the dickensesque characteristic meant whimsical and old timey, which fits for ding dong ditch imo
I was referring to how ding dong ditch is less in the dickensesque category and more in the North American is this fine or a euphemism for a war crime category. Ding dong ditch could just as easily fall aling blow bang suck as it could along Willy Petes surprise.
FedEx calls it ‘Failed Delivery’.
They don’t knock.
No, that’s the Feds.
That would be if they arrived at the wrong door.
And then shot your dog.
Classic Feds giving the ol “shoot an innocent being” tactics
No that’s Mr. White
Those FedEx scumbags creep up to your door like a ninja, slap the sticker tag on your door, and sneak off with the package still in the van.
That’s if they knock at all
False, FedEx don’t knock
Ding-dong Ditch, bitches!
This is all I’ve ever heard it called.
That is way closer to this image than I thought english people ever actually got IRL

FORCEY FUN TIME, jesus christ XD
Struggle snuggle
I don’t see cold on the cob, which is my favorite.
I prefer being american than talking like this lowk 😭🙏
It’s why there are so many independence day celebrations dotted around the world.
Independence days are the chief export of England
Makes sense, i wouldn’t like to be a br’tish colony either
Most of those aren’t real lol
This couldn’t be written by a brit, dont they call gravy brown sauce and white sauce?
No, brown sauce is brown sauce.
What the hell is brown sauce.
It’s brown…. sauce.
~Duh. Pay attention.~
Hp sauce. It’s like A1 sauce.
I’m not going to post what it was called where I grew up because it’s gross and likely violates hate speech or epithet rules.
Fucking midwest US.
Damn… It’s just called “Knock and Run” in Australia.
Does Australia finally have one thing we say completely normal?
Ding dong dash is what we called it in the Midwest, US.
Ding dong ditch?
I have heard that one.
It was called “Knock and Run” in the UK too - at least in the bits of the UK I lived in.
You guys have a different dialect for every block in your city though.
Well yeah, obviously. I wouldn’t want to speak like those inbred idiot web-footed freaks who live a hundred metres away.
No you sound ridiculous calling it that /s
This is why I hate the Internet.
You should be free to say that without /s
I am ridiculous.
Knock and Run in my part of the UK growing up.
Where I grew up in Vic it was called going ‘knick knocking’ in the 80s
Yeh, we called it that in Liverpool
Ping pong dash over here in Japan
In the US south they use a racial slur, because of course
Mhm, midwest US and N***** Knocking was what we were told it was called, because of course.
It became Ding Dong Ditch once we grew up a little.
Honky Hookin’
Not sure what OP’s mom has to do with anything
If it came from the old world as “Knicky Knocky,” it would make sense* that the racist US version would sound similar to that.
/* As much as any racist shit “makes sense,” of course.
Rural southern person here we called it Knock, Knock, Dash how is that racist?
I grew up in a very bigoted Southern town that was still firing people from schools for being gay in the 2000s, and they still frown on interracial marriage. The N Word was a regular part of life growing up.
We called it Ding Dong Ditch.
Heard that one too. And I grew up in racist state and town they had open KKK stickers on their bumpers but still never heard a racist version. Which guess I am grateful for.
It apparently used to be called ni**er knocking. I’m in the rural south too, and I’ve always known it as dong, dong, ditch.
But then again my mom was arrested at a civil rights rally (on the side of black people being equal), so my upbringing might have something to do with it.
Crazy! and my mom and dad are both racist, my dad more so and never heard that version. But probably more my dad being that racist to him probably frown on such behavior or more he was shelter enough never to learn of such things. He did grow up on a farm.
I do unfortunately had tons of racist jokes told to me which sucks having those rattling around in my brain pan.
sucks having those rattling around in my brain pan.
we aren’t responsible for everything what got put into our heads, just everything we pass on from them.
if it helps, sometimes i take that shit, write it down (and burn all evidence of it) to see if it gets it out of the brainpan. like how listening to the song you’ve had stuck in your head gets it out finally.
In 1980s deep south (not even rural) I definitely heard it called n* knocking.
Your experience does not disprove mine, as a fellow southerner
it’s not. but you’re not the only one down there and you were, apparently, raised right. ;)
Spent some childhood in coastal Mississippi and I can attest this is the case
I like this one

Tolkien’s first draft
The Fuckoffship of the Ring
Huh, never heard that one. My teacher once said “arrêtez donc les conneries avec les sonnettes” so we called it “connettes” but I’m fairly sure that was just a handful of grade 4s, that one year.
On dit sonne-decrisse a Montreal ntk
I regret to inform Gemma that calling it Chappy is also some “Charles Dickens shite”
FYI chap is Scots for knock. So it’s essentially called Knocky. That ain’t very Dickens.
Dictionary proof: https://dsl.ac.uk/entry/snd/chap_v1
Obviously it’s Ding Dong Dash.
No, it’s Ding Dong Ditch!
I’m Gen X and it was always Ding Dong Ditch.
I agree modern USA variant is Ding Dong Ditch, however it couldn’t have always been that as the game predates doorbells. What was dinging and what was dongin for those early trailblazers?
The name came first, then they invented doorbells to match,
Bells are quite old. Maybe people sometimes targeted houses that used them instead of door knockers or just knocking and called it Ding Dong Ditch back then too! probably not tho.
Door bells are quite old. The ones that go ding-dong not so much.
I’ve lived in the USA for my whole life and only ever heard the dash variant to my memory.
I bet you also call all soda a “cola”.
I bet you call all fizzy wizzy slurp slurps “soda”
Found the Brit
I live at the crux between “soda pop” and “coke” as generic names for soda.
Of course
I want a god damn literacola!
Knock Up the Neighborhood?
I think that’s a different game involving more than a few poor decisions by all parties…
Yeah I would find it comical if kids picked out houses with ring door bells, walked up yelled “Ding Dong” and then just ran away.
I would laugh every time I saw someone having to check their phone at work and just have a kid yelling at them.
About 3 months ago a teenage girl, like 13 or so, strolled up to the door, pushed the button, and bolted. Like no attempt to be stealthy, wasn’t even moving speedy until the press. My cam records 24/7 so it’s not like it only records once pressed, the camera screen lights up when you approach, Home Assistant greets you at the same time. You know that it knows that you are present, painfully clearly.
I dunno if getting older is accelerating it, but damn kids these days are dumb as hell. At least scope out places without cams…
Maybe she wanted to ask something and then just got scared?
I remember as a kid we were playing hide and seek over at a friend’s house. Someone got all upset because he said one of us went into his garage and shut the garage door. None of us would have done that, but I do wish that guy would have had a camera so he would have had evidence that no one was in his garage or doing anything on his property.
I have a feeling a family member shut it or he just forgot and when he saw a kid not even in his yard running around he thought he still had it open and blamed it on “hooligans.”
Camera would have been exceptionally rare back then though… That had to be 97?
Nah, to reach the button you have to trigger both the screen and the greeting, and even if you are quick there’s still enough time to pause and think. I can also see my closest neighbor’s door, which would be the closest/fastest alternative if you needed something but were startled; they went the other direction, the shortest route to break line of sight, with no hesitation after the press.
You all also had another name for it…
I’m genx it was always Nicky nine doors. Ain’t no one in the country have doorbells in the 70s.
Canadian boomer here. We called it Nicky Nicky Nine door when we did it.
Please get off my continent
Sorry. I don’t understand? What did I do to warrant you telling me to get off this continent?
OUR continent
Us millennials call it that aswell, we probably use the name our parents taught us.
What the fuck does this even mean?? And why nine specifically?
I found this for the origin.
“Nicky Nicky Nine Doors" comes from the Cornish Nickanan Night, a feast day where youths partake in minor mischief”
Ah yes, the jolly sport of Rap, Tap, Flee!
Dash??? What the fuck?!
My cohorts called it (n-bomb) knocking. Glad I never participated in it with them.
In Japanese, it’s ピンポンダッシュ which is a transliteration of “ping pong dash.”
Could also just translates to Pin Pon Dash. Yes ピンポン can translate to Ping Pong the game but it literally says Pin Pon which is Japanese onomatopoeia for the doorbell sound.
I guess, but that would be the transliteration of the Japanese onomatopoeia as “pin pon” afaik doesn’t really mean much in English. I thought with “ping pong,” we at least associate with the sound.
ding dong dash ?
Tha fuk, Am I having a stroke?
